Hi Everyone!

Please consider this your personal invitation to attend our "2 Wing Brats Reunion".

The plans are moving along well. All we really need now is a ton of participants. So why not take a moment to review the plans on the following page, get out those pictures and other memorabilia and send in your cheque!

(The registration form and reunion details are on the web site –www.grostenquin.org)

Although all the details are not final yet, there are some grand plans and surprises in the works!! Any ideas, or help, that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

So post this flyer on the fridge and don’t forget to check the web site on a regular basis for further details on accommodation, travel and reunion specifics.

Oh yes – one way everyone could contribute is to make a point of contacting at least one person who is not on the database to tell him, or her, about the reunion. We want everyone to have the opportunity to attend.

It’s going to be a wonderful experience – see you there!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update #2 - 14 February, 2002

We met again in mid January at Janis & Hazen Gilks to continue the planning for our October re-union. We will communicate details as they are finalized. In some cases, certain items will remain with the committee until the re-union. We are committed as we just made a deposit on a facility; an excellent venue in a great location within walking distance of several hotels.

It's the newly renovated Junior Ranks Mess at Cartier Square, on the Rideau Canal behind Ottawa City Hall. For those who know Ottawa it's on Lisgar Street off Elgin Street at Laurier. We have the Mess for the entire week-end for all planned activities. An excellent venue with a bar at military prices (about half the cost of local hotels), lounge and dining room. The dance floor was a little small for all the "jivers" but adequate for our needs. The layout and décor provides a great setting for our meeting after some forty years.

We have been in contact with several hotels near the Mess. One will be selected as the host facility with special rates for the re-union. A list of other hotels in the area will be provided so that people have a choice. All hotels are within a few minutes walk - so folks can park their car and party and not worry about driving. We will just point you in the right direction. We will forward details on the hotels after our next meeting.

The other important item is travel options. We are sourcing information and will post on the web-site, shortly.

There is one item which requires the attention of everyone and that's locating as many "2 Wingers" as possible. We do have plans to contact certain media and other military sources for promoting and advertising the re-union. We welcome any suggestions you may have.

A special note of thanks to Ren for his on-going support to the re-union web-site. Also to Michael Roy who has provided insight and information to our plans. Michael was involved in the planning of a Lahr "brats" re-union in Ottawa in the fall of 2000 which attracted 1,000 attendees.

Those on the committee include Hazen & Janis Gilks, Robyn Virr (Gerein), Pam Fisher (Stanley), Jack Gibson, Joy Gilbert, Judy Sauve Moore, Reg & Mary Moore, Virginia Riley (Hogan), Sally & Ray Campeau, Jo-Anne Windover (Muciy) and Jim Nubel.

We will be back to you shortly with more information on hotel and travel. We meet again on March 3rd.

"The Committee".

Update #1 - 4 December, 2001

We can now say that it looks like this is really going to happen. A group of Lorraine High School Alumni have met twice to discuss plans for the first "major" re-union of the 2 (F) Wing Grostenquin "Brats" with a date for the next meeting already set for early in the new year. In the meantime individuals have accepted various responsibilities as part of the overall plan; to include date, location, facilities, budget, activities, logistics, such as accommodation, venue, food and beverage and numerous other considerations. A key element is to find the many individuals who are out there somewhere but have not yet connected. We urge everyone to make the effort to locate and contact others and make them aware of this web site and what is happening.

The three most important decisions, initially, were time, place and registration fee. There was considerable discussion around these items given the distance, timing, costs and personal impacts for everyone. We did survey many of those, in contact, and based the date on the results of the survey. The date for the reunion is October 18, 19 & 20, 2002.

The location for the re-union will be Ottawa, Ontario. We feel that Ottawa will provide an excellent venue for meeting facilities, accessibility for all planned activities, in town transportation needs, hotel accommodations and other cost considerations.

The next major item was setting a budget. We have considered only the essential elements as those necessary to ensure a memorable and enjoyable week-end for everyone. We are just beginning the process of putting together a week-end program which maximizes the opportunity to meet and catch-up on the past forty years. We also wanted to set a registration fee which would accommodate our plans and not require the organizing committee to have to come back to those planning to attend to ask for another contribution. Any surplus could be used for a second re-union in western Canada (?) at some future date. We do need funds initially as we start making commitments. The fee has been set at $150 per person; to cover costs for Friday "munchies", Saturday Gala Dinner and hall rental, Sunday brunch and various common expenses.

We have set-up this special message area for information about the re-union as well as the ability to respond with messages, suggestions and comments. We will also prepare a registration format on this web site.

We have started work on hotel accommodations as well as information on travel costs. All of this information will eventually be posted on the web site.

We will ensure that you are aware of the plans as details are finalized.

We will do everything possible to make this an occasion to remember. Be assured that we are also aware of the distance, costs and personal implications for everyone.

Your organizing committee.
