2 Wing Reunion
Grostenquin, France

Update as of 21 October 2005 - New Committee Members

We are happy to welcome Margaret L'Ecuyer as a new committee member. Margaret is taking her late husband's position as the committee member in charge of web site updates and posting.

We are also happy to welcome Barbara Reasbeck (now Booher) as the new committee member in charge of decorating. Barbara has enormous artistic talents and has taken on the job of putting together our provincial pins on a wonderful red maple leaf display.

Update as of 18 October 2005 - Music, BBQ, Decorating

Today we confirmed that we have a D.J. and we will be sending him the music we want to hear rather than leaving it up to his choice. So let me know the songs that you have fond memories of and we will be sure to include that one.

Our French Committee Member, Daniel Christoph, has organised a barbeque for noon on Sunday. The location will be the Bambi Light Aricraft Comapany and the Maginot Line Fortifications are on that property.

If you wish to be a part of the work detail as far as decorating the hall then please let me know. The more the merrier. If you have a video camera and don't mind us using it for the dance etc then that would be great. The more shots we have of the events the greater the memories will be.

Our motto for this reunion is KEEP IT SIMPLE. We want everyone to have fun, meet old friends and share great memories. We are not going to be handing out t- shirts and souvenirs of this type, but putting together a video of the event and then onto a D.V.D., which we will send to you. This video will be a series of shots of great moments, and will not be formal so you can relax and enjoy and don't have to worry about smiling for the camera. We want you to be able to see yourself having fun, meeting old friends, visiting old haunts. I do not think we will be allowed to video any of the base tour but we will certainly ask.

Update as of 12 October 2005

Report from the 2 Wing Reunion Committee

The essence of the area and our memories lies in visiting and living in the small towns. Metz and St Avold are modern urban cities. Faulquemont is the closest to the small town style that matches the sizes of the 1950/60’s. The other towns are what we remember, just cleaner. This area of France that used to be dirty from coal industries, now is clean and mostly litter free.

1. We have rented the Faulqeumont Convent for our event. This is no longer a convent, but used as the community centre. If you go on the Grostenquin 2006 Reunion page "Assorted photos taken during the preliminary visit to Grostenquin April-May 2005", In photos #85,#86,#87 you can see that this is a charming and very quaint building. Very clean and wheel chair accessible. We have received permission from the City of Faulquemont to also use this site free of charge for those of you who are camping or bringing travel trailers.

2. Stan Blosche of Boucherie Blosche is catering for both the Meet and Greet and the banquet. He will be providing an array of French finger food for the Meet and Greet and a very French dinner for the banquet. There will be a cash bar at both the Meet and Greet and the banquet. The dinner for the banquet will include French wine.

3. Our French Committee member, Daniel Christoph is organizing a very French Barbecue for Sunday for those who are interested and the cost will be posted later on. You need to pay by cash for this and any of the tours that are made available as we do not have access to credit card billing. Tours already arranged are: the Maginot Line underground fortifications and a flight over the base by Bambi Light Aircraft. Cost for this to be posted later. Our tour desk will help link up those of you who might want to go to Choloy and travel together.

4. In response to various comments about music we decided that it would be best to hire a D.J. and play only music from the 50'and early 60's. We will tape this music and provide it to the D.J. Our original thought to have a French band was cancelled due to not being able to get one who could play that style of music.

5. The hotels are available on the link "Hotel information" area of the reunion site. If you go on the internet you will bring up Holiday Inn. This is closed for renovations and, if it did reopen in time, I personally found it to be out of the way. St. Avold is closer and more easily accessible. The Hotel Le Chatelaine is now full and we are recommending that you use the HOTEL DE PARIS and next the HOTEL DE L'EUROPE.

(Phone calls to France are relatively inexpensive...around $2.50 CDN for approximately 8 minutes. It has been suggested that it's best to call Mr. Wirt regarding reservations are they are slow to answer their emails.)

6. We are extending the Last Call for registration to March 31. If you want to register after this may be possible but we cannot guarantee that you will be able to join the base tour. The French military require a 1 day insurance policy on all who are going on the base and this must be in by March 31..
